The ChatGPT desktop app, the Codex CLI and the Codex IDE extension read their MCP servers from one file, ~/.codex/config.toml. Add PartFinder there once and all three can use it. The server itself is described in MCP server.

Add the server and sign in

  1. Add this entry to ~/.codex/config.toml:
  2. Run this command:
  3. In your browser, sign in to PartFinder, choose your organization and approve the two permissions.
  4. Restart the ChatGPT desktop app or Codex so it reads the file. In the Codex CLI, type /mcp to see your active MCP servers.
To use PartFinder in one project only, put the same entry in that project’s .codex/config.toml. Codex reads a project’s file only when the project is trusted.

Check the connection

Ask “Is PartFinder connected?”. The agent calls the ping tool, which is free.

Can I use my own API key?

Yes. Use this entry instead, and set PARTFINDER_API_KEY in your environment to your API key:
bearer_token_env_var names the variable that holds the key, so the file holds no key. You do not run codex mcp login with a key.
