Claude Code connects to the PartFinder server and signs you in through your browser. The server itself is described in MCP server.

Add the server and sign in

  1. Add the server:
To share the server with a project instead, add this entry to .mcp.json at the project root:
  2. In Claude Code, type /mcp and choose partfinder.
  3. Follow the steps in your browser: sign in to PartFinder, choose your organization and approve the two permissions.
If your browser does not open, copy the address Claude Code shows and open it yourself.

Check the connection

Run claude mcp get partfinder to see the server’s status, or ask Claude “Is PartFinder connected?”. Claude calls the ping tool, which is free.

Can I use my own API key?

Yes. The .mcp.json file can refer to an environment variable, so it holds no key and you can commit it.
  1. Set PARTFINDER_API_KEY in your environment to your API key.
  2. Create .mcp.json at the project root, or add the partfinder entry to the one you have:
  3. Start claude in the project and approve the partfinder server when Claude Code asks.
Do not add the server with claude mcp add --header "Authorization: Bearer $PARTFINDER_API_KEY". Your shell replaces the variable with the key before Claude Code sees it, so the key is stored in the configuration.
